Styrofoam is the brand name for polystyrene. Each year, Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 polystyrene cups. This is enough to circle the earth 436 times each year.
Polystyrene accounts for more than 25% of landfill space, and it probably never decomposes.
If we stop buying styrofoam, companies will stop producing it. Try asking restaurants to stop using styrofoam, and then take your business to restaurants that use recyclable to-go containers. Better yet, bring your own container with you.
